It's time for Summer Break! Come on down and spend it with us! The Library offers programs for children from ages 2 to 5 called Preschool Story Hour, from grades 1 to 8 called Summer Reading Program, and volunteer work for teens from age 12 to 18. Registration is required for all programs and space is limited. Programs are free of charge. The Library also has volunteer positions for Teens ages 12 to 18. Registration for all summer programs and for volunteers will be held May 11, 2008 to May 24, 2008. All story hours and group sessions of the summer reading program clubs will be filled on a first come, first serve basis. Preschool programs fill fast, so you will want to register early.

Preschool Story Hour

Catch the Reading Bug is the theme for the summer session of the Preschool Story Hours. There will be a Hot Tots session for 2 & 3 year olds and Summergartners for ages 4 - 5. Preschoolers will have a buggy time this summer learning about caterpillars, ants, spiders and other creepy crawlers. Click here to register for Preschool Story Hour.

Summer Reading Program

Catch the Reading Bug is the theme of the Henderson County Public Library's Summer Reading Program for children entering grades 1-8. Join us this summer as we discover the amazing world of insects through books, movies, crafts and other activities at the Library. Click here to register for Summer Reading Program.

Grades 1-3

Mondays at 2:00pm, June 9 - July 14

Tuesdays at 10:00am or 2:00pm, June 10 - July 15

Grades 4-8

Thursdays at 10:00am, June 12 - July 17

There are two ways to participate in the Summer Reading Program:

  1. You can join the Catch the Reading Bug Reading Club where participants meet once a week at a designated time. Club members will participate in a variety of weekly activities such as games, movies, book discussion, etc.
  2. Sign up to be a "Read On Your Own Member" for the Summer Reading Program. "Read On Your Own Members" will still need to visit the library at least once a week at their convenience to have their reading logs checked and will receive all the incentives and prizes that will be awarded to club members.

Volunteers

Teens and youth ages 12 to 18 are invited to volunteer and assist with our summer library programs. You would be responsible for shelving, preparing crafts and various other tasks.
