What's the difference between Reserve Next Available Copy and Reserve This Copy?

When you choose Reserve this copy, you will probably have to wait longer for your book because you have chosen to reserve a specific copy instead of the next copy that is returned to the Library.  If all the copies are the same, you should click on Reserve Next Available Copy to ensure that you will get your book as quickly as possible.

There are times when using Reserve this copy is appropriate and even necessary. For example, look at the record below.  This is the record for the DVD series, Band of Brothers.  If you have already viewed volumes 1-4, then you will want to reserve volumes 5 and 6.  If you click on Reserve Next Available Copy, you will receive the next copy that is returned, which may not be volume 5 or 6.  So you should click on Reserve this copy beside volumes 5 and 6.  This will ensure that you receive the volumes that you need.
