Program Description

Event Details

Join us in celebrating Henderson’s own Susie Thurman as she shares the conclusion of her powerful trilogy, WWII Letters from England: An American Soldier Writes Home.

The series chronicles the experiences of her father, Lt. Charles “Muggins” Sommers, who was stationed with the U.S. Army at Burtonwood, the largest air base in the U.K., from 1943–1946.

The newly released third and final book captures his reflections during the uncertain postwar months as he awaited his long-anticipated return to the United States—culminating in his homecoming in 1946.

Come hear Susie discuss her journey in preserving her father’s story, from the first letters of wartime England through the final chapter of his return home.

The program will include a book sale and signing, where attendees can purchase copies and have them signed by the author.
